People visit Craigslist everyday to look for cheap movers to move their items. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to save money. However, unfortunately every single day there are people that find out the hard way that cheaper is not always better.
The reality is that anyone with access to a moving truck can post an ad on Craigslist and claim to be a professional mover. It really isn’t that difficult. Come up with a catchy title, a few sentences and possibly a few pictures along with a phone number and you’re in business.
Now before I go any further I would like to point out that we started out in the business by advertising on Craigslist and we still do as a matter of fact. There are some quality providers available to you on the site.
If you are considering using cheap movers from Craigslist then there are several things that you should consider:
How do they answer the phone? Is it simply hello or do they actually use a company name?
First impressions go a long way and in this case your phone conversation will be your initial contact. You can learn quite a bit just by how the person speaks about their service and their processes. Make sure to ask plenty of questions and trust your gut.
Do they have any social proof validating their professionalism?
These days online reviews are extremely important to businesses. Most reputable businesses will have at least one account with a review site such as Yelp, Angie’s List, BBB, Yellow Pages, Thumbtack etc. Look them up.
If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is…
